MLC School is looking for an experienced and passionate School Counsellor to join our dedicated team of counsellors in 2021.

About the position

Our School Counsellors are responsible for designing and conducting counselling programs, and for providing external referrals, to support the academic, social, emotional and psychological needs of our students. In this context, the School Counsellor is part of a team that also provides specialist advice to school leaders, teachers, parents and carers regarding students experiencing psychological, social or emotional distress.

As one of our School Counsellors, you will provide confidential and professional counselling service to students from Kindergarten to Year 12, for a wide range of wellbeing concerns, including social, emotional and academic needs.

You will play an integral part in fostering the wellbeing of students through a proactive and supportive counselling approach. You will work in collaboration with the Counselling Team as well as the Leadership and Pastoral Care teams to encourage and promote student wellbeing at MLC School.

About you

The ideal candidate will have experience in working with children and/or adolescents up to the age of 18.

The successful applicant will have relevant qualifications and be a registered psychologist. Experience in a school environment would be advantageous although all experience working with children and/or adolescents is relevant.

This role would suit you if you are currently working in private practice and are contemplating a move into a different area of working with young people such as a school setting. If you are interested in leading programs, being proactive in the care and provision of counselling, and would like to work with students both individually and collectively, this role would be of interest.

Essential Criteria:

  • Registered psychologist
  • Current AHPRA registration
  • Ability to work with students across the K to Year 12 age range
  • Experience as a skilled and committed counsellor/psychologist with proven experience in supporting the wellbeing of young children through effective diagnosis, counselling and other suitable forms of engagement
  • NSW Working with Children Clearance

Desirable:

  • Particular interest and experience in working with children and adolescents to create proactive and supportive programs and support structures
  • Current First Aid and CPR qualifications
